Smell the "beignet"

Oh how I love the smell of hot "beignets"...well they are actually canned biscuits, cut in 1/2 or 1/4 depending on what type of biscuits your using.…

Anyways, we were due for some unpleasant weather - so I decided to fry something to cure the anxiety.

So I popped open a can of Grande biscuits and decided to cut them in 1/4

My excitement bubbles over...so now I'm heating up the wonderful cast iron full of pre-creamed shortening, added two cups of powdered sugar into a brown paper bag, and a plate covered a plate with paper towels; it helps soak up that wonderful grease.

I wish you (who ever is reading this!) knew my excitement!!! This next step only gets better...time to start dropping the biscuits in the oil.

Oh! Wait it gets a WHOLE LOT BETTER…

Plop! Plop! Bubble Bubble…what did you think this was? An alka-seltzer commercial...Ha Ha

Okay so these are a little darker than I like them to be - but have you ever be so excited to enjoy something; cooking and photo taking is just simply difficult, but the cooking must go on.

So after they are fully cooked; remove from oil & drop into brown bag of powdered sugar & shake "ya tail-feather"....place on plate covered with paper towels...move quickly & eat one (or some!) before the kids get them!!!

Too late…I wasn't quick enough!!

Look at the precise choosing - she says it's a skill.

Happy Cooking!!

Happy Easter

Our kids may be 14 years old ~ but I refuse to let the thrill of the Easter Bunny visiting. I recently joined a quilting group on FaceBook and saw this cute little project. So what's better than making them for the ones you love the most.

(Front)

(Back)

I used 2 different fabrics and cut 2 10" squares out of each. I also doubled up on the batting - the batting I have just doesn't seem thick enough. Place the fabrics right side together and the batting underneath both. Sew a 1/4" seam around leaving a couple inches un-sewn to help with turning it inside out.

After turning the fabric inside out, sew a 1/4" seam around the entire square.

I continued to sew a 1/4" square all the way around until I reached the center.

Oh! Try to remember to check your bobbin to make sure you actually have enough thread to complete a project (unfortunately, I did not do this!)…excuse the brief interruption while I watch some tv and wind a bobbin.......

Okay back to the project....which I'm still sewing a 1/4" square

I would like to know if it's suppose to bubble up in the center ~ cause mine does.

Yep!! Finally got to the center....now fold the square in half and mark the corners at 2". Which ever side you would like to be the inside of the box, make sure it's facing you while doing this step.

And sew where you've marked. Now turn in the other direction and mark 2" again on the corners.

You'll get something that looks a little odd like this....after the four corners have been sewn, turn it right side out.

This is the finished product - and below is another example of exactly how cute these really are.

The four corners can either be left up - kind of looks like a flower, stitch it down…or use cute decorative buttons.

Here's the link to the pattern I used:

Just another Tuesday

Today I was given the opportunity to take our lovely, 14 year old daughter, to school. So how do you make a day even better? By taking selfies - I may not like how I feel about myself every day but my love for our daughter is far greater than my insecurities.

Craft Time

A couple months ago I started crocheting an afghan. Originally it was suppose to consist of 72 octagons and 60 squares. Who am I kidding I'm NOT a patient person and I wasn't seeing progress in that decision so now it's stripes.
I love the colors I've chosen: purple, teal, cream and grey. Love, Love these color choices for our bedroom.
On Saturday I went on a road trip with a very dear friend. We drove over an hour to Prairie Quilt. Man! They have lots and lots of fabric. I did find something to purchase...I decided to make throw pillows for our bed using the new fabric. Now! I can see my vision growing.…So excited to paint and decorate.
